ID card must for traffic, licensing transactions

ABU DHABI — The Emirates Identity Card is being made mandatory for all transactions at the traffic and licensing departments across the various emirates from the beginning of the month, said Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Ghaith, Director-General for Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior.

“Traffic, Patrols, Motor Vehicles Registration and Driving Licences departments nationwide implement and enforce the mandatory use and producing of ID rule in finalising and completion of the traffic and licensing dealings they provide to the applicants,” he said.
He also added that the receipt on registration, which proves that the applicant has filled in the ID application form online, will also be considered when having transactions.
The decision came on the basis of the fact that ID is an official document to prove the identity of its holder, and that the persons, who have not obtained the ID, should apply for it to have their traffic transactions finalised. He underlined the importance of having the ID to get transactions completed along with maintaining the standards of accuracy and authenticity.
Brigadier Zaabi urged those who have not yet obtained the ID to speed up doing so, as the traffic and licensing departments will not accept and receive any applications without the ID or the registration receipt for obtaining the ID.
